DIGITALIZED! Design Challenge for PhD Students - Una4Community

PhD candidates at Una Europa universities are invited to join forces to solve real-life problems in the digital world, presented by partnering organisations Małopolska Institute of Culture and Life Science Cluster in Krakòw.

Join the co-creation journey and collaborate with public or non-governmental organisations to help address the business challenges of their digital growth:

  1. How might we use digital resources of Virtual Museums of Małopolska to create business opportunities for various entities?
  2. How might we encourage scientists to use the Digital Platform for Cooperation of the LifeScience Krakow Cluster, designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship, facilitate access to technology, customers, project partners and financing for development?

This is your chance to use your expertise and work for a cause together with colleagues from Una Europa universities.

Who can apply?

The project welcomes all Una Europa PhD candidates/PhD students with different skill sets and backgrounds; no experience with problem solving methodologies is required! Teams of 4-6 PhD students and will receive facilitators' assistance during the whole process. Estimated workload of PhD students is 7 working hours per day.

PhD students will have a unique opportunity to establish professional and personal relations with PhD peers from other Una Europa universities - using expertise and knowledge to have a real impact - and learn Design Thinking, a problem-solving methodology.

Organizers cover accommodation and flight costs up to 3100 PLN (approximately 650 Euro, please note the PLN is the reference currency)!

What are the selection criteria?

Submissions will be assessed on the following criteria:

  1. PhD at one of the Una Europa universities
  2. English fluency
  3. Field of expertise
  4. Motivation

Teams will be formed on the following diversity criteria:

  1. University (country)
  2. Expertise
  3. Gender

About the partners and project

Małopolska Institute of Culture – is an independent body set up by the Małopolska local government. MIK engages in many activities to study and promote cultural heritage of the Małopolska region. MIK provides workshops and training as well as organizes conferences and seminars for culture sector employees. We also research the evolution of cultural trends and development directions.

Life Science Cluster – Klaster LifeScience Foundation in Krakow was established in 2013 in order to better use the potential of the Klaster LifeScience initiative, to take up the challenges facing the Małopolska Bio-Region and to effectively use development opportunities in the area of ​​life science and biotechnology. The Foundation, having legal personality, as a member of the "Innovative Cluster" is also the leader and coordinator of this project and the lifescience.pl website.

The aim of DIGITALIZED! is to develop new methods to intensify the cooperation between the universities of Una Europa, and to conduct scientific research. The project also endeavours to popularize and educate. Moreover, the additional goal is to implement and carry out projects in the socio-economic environment that are connected with the impact of the digital revolution which influences changes in the social world. DIGITALIZED! is financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange as part of the Academic International Partnerships programme.
