Building a University of the Future at EAIE 2023

News -

For the first time, Una Europa set our course for EAIE (26–29 September 2023, Rotterdam) – Europe's biggest higher education conference. From Una Europa hard hats and high-vis jackets to Specialist Spotlights and sessions, our first major exhibition presence provided Una Europa with a unique opportunity to connect with counterparts, deepen ties with partners, and share our vision for a University of the Future with new audiences.

Putting Una Europa on the programme

Una Europa was prominently represented on the EAIE conference programme by alliance colleagues. Amandine Duraz (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Lara Sorrentino (Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna) equipped delegates to design their own micro-credential, while KU Leuven's Matt Tips supported institutions to embrace green mobility practices. Francesco Girotti (Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna) explored the transformational change university alliances have brought about in higher education institutions and Bert Willems (KU Leuven) charted digital recognition from paper to pixel.

That's just a flavour of the many facets of Una Europa's vision for a University of the Future that were explored in sessions and workshops. We look forward to seeing even more Una Europa colleagues' impactful work reach new audiences at EAIE 2024 in Toulouse.

Shining a spotlight on Una Europa specialists

Una Europa welcomed six experts to the stand for our Specialist Spotlight series. Our Specialists invited conference delegates to explore the impact Una Europa is achieving in strategic areas, spanning student mobility to sustainability and climate protection.

Among the experts was Senior Project Lead for Student Empowerment, Stinne Vognæs (University of Helinski), who articulated Una Europa's vision for student engagement: "In the absence of existing frameworks, staff and students can create new structures and ways of working together. Instead of a model of providers and receivers, we can build a community of mutual responsibility and commitment.

Connecting with partners beyond Europe

We were delighted to welcome the University of Johannesburg's Director of Academic Services Anisa Khan to the Una Europa Stand. As a member of our Una Europa–Africa Working Group, Anisa has played a key role in shaping the Una Europa–Africa Partnership Seed Funding Call 2023.

Eager to learn more about this opportunity? Register to attend our Seed Funding Call launch webinar on 26 October.

See you in Toulouse?

The conference theme for EAIE 2024 is 'En Route!’ – 'on our way’ – a sentiment that will resonate with Una Europa colleagues as we continue our journey towards a University of the Future. We look forward to seeing you at next year's conference in Toulouse!
