Una Europa secures EU support for the Una.Via project, a bridge to the future

News -

Una Europa has been selected for funding under the competitive Erasmus+ 2026 European Universities call.

The two-year Una.Via project will ensure both continuity and renewed momentum as the alliance looks towards longer-term alliance funding under the European Commission’s next Multiannual Financial Framework in 2028.

Una.Via will pursue three core objectives:

  • Efficiency: Streamlining governance and strengthening sustainable international cooperation.
  • Embeddedness: Upscaling and integrating high-impact joint formats in education and research among the alliance’s 11 partner universities.
  • Impact: Strengthening Una Europa’s capacity to deliver, assess and enhance alliance-wide and external impact.

"Una.Via opens a new, crucial path for our alliance," says Una.Via Co-Coordinator Margriet Van Bael (KU Leuven).

"By focusing on our existing programmes and selected activities with demonstrated added value, we are ensuring continuity to our collaborations, scaling up what works and deepening integration across all Una Europa universities. I look forward to working even more closely with all involved partners."

Consolidation through innovation

Una.Via builds on lessons learned from previous Una Europa projects, in particular 1Europe and Una.Futura. New activities with transformative potential will build on established ecosystems and successful pilots to support our pan-European community of researchers, professional services staff and students:

  • Interdisciplinary Hubs: Drawing on the success of the alliance’s academic Self-Steering Committees, Una.Via will further the development of Interdisciplinary Hubs: virtual inter-university centres that support collaborative research, education, and outreach across Una Europa’s six Focus Areas.
  • Training Academy: The Una Europa Training Academy will provide an alliance‑wide framework for designing, delivering and recognising skills‑development pathways for professional services staff, researchers and students.
  • Student engagement embedded across all workstreams: Una.Via will mainstream student engagement as a core feature of every project strand. Building on Una.Futura’s student empowerment work, students will gain a stronger co‑creation role through deeper Student Board integration, active involvement in the Interdisciplinary Hubs, and peer-learning with counterparts across the alliance through virtual exchange.

“I am excited to see Una.Via take shape," reflects Una.Via Co-Coordinator Marta Molino (KU Leuven).

"It offers a lighter, more integrated structure that enables students, researchers and professional staff to participate in our joint activities. This project is a vital step towards more meaningful collaboration among the members of our community and clearer pathways for high-impact formats.”

" Una.Via will be key to strengthening Una Europa’s unique contribution to the European higher education and R&I landscape. "

Looking ahead

Through Una.Via, Una Europa is poised to consolidate its achievements, innovate boldly, and lay a clear path towards the next generation of Erasmus+ funding. More broadly, the project will bolster the alliance’s vision of forging a new model for education and research in Europe and beyond, shaping our shared future for the better.

"2026 marks an important transition for Una Europa, and Una.Via is the next step in our alliance’s evolution," Una Europa's Secretary General, Sophia Karner remarks.

"Building on seven years of shared achievements and lessons learned, the project reflects our growing maturity while creating space for greater focus and clearer priorities in our collaboration.
