Citizen Science Toolkit

Co-developed by

Developed under our flagship R&I project Una.Resin, the Una Europa Citizen Science Toolkit supports researchers at all stages of their career to initiate and engage in citizen science projects by offering diverse insights from citizen science experts across the alliance.

Promoting citizen science practices at Una Europa

Citizen science encompasses a range of interpretations, all united by the central concept of involving non-academic individuals in research endeavours. The core objective of citizen science is to bridge the gap between academia and the public, enhancing the impact of research outcomes. Initially rooted in fields such as biology and environmental studies, citizen science now spans a diverse array of disciplines and levels of citizen engagement.

Una Europa is committed to endorsing and strengthening citizen science practices. Our Citizen Science Toolkit aims to enrich the understanding of citizen science amongst our community and highlight exemplary methodologies implemented by researchers across the alliance.

About the Una Europa Citizen Science Toolkit

The Toolkit consists of eight sections, each addressing a specific question. Each section includes:

  • Eight interviews given by experts from Una Europa partner universities
  • Summaries and valuable top tips

The Toolkit offers practical guidance on developing and implementing citizen science projects, rooted in our experts' personal experiences. The experts share valuable insights into various facets of citizen science - from project design and funding to engaging the public effectively to ensuring long-term sustainability and success.

All experts featured in the Toolkit are all from Una Europa partner universities and, despite coming from different disciplinary fields, share an interest in citizen science projects. The theme of cultural heritage aligns with the Una Europa Focus Area and highlights the potential for citizen engagement in social and human sciences.

Note on accessibility
